Are They Really A Professional?

Hiring a service professional can be a daunting task, especially if them coming to your home is required for the task at hand. We have all experienced or heard of horror stories from scam artist to uninsured hack jobs. Those stories can make future hiring seem impossible, stressful, and very uncomfortable.

Years ago people would just call the Better Business Bureau to check on a companies background, but in 2019 there are better and more accurate ways to do that. Contrary to most peoples understanding, Better Business Bureau is not a Government regulatory division. BBB is a private company that sells “memberships” to businesses for a large amount of money in order to be “accredited”. Be cautious of taking the BBB accreditation with any value when making your hiring decisions.

THINGS TO CHECK

  • Google Reviews - Simply google the companies business name and their “Google My Business Page” should show up. This will show reviews, pictures, and other info. Google reviews will help you see what past customers experience have been with that company. Google is very strict on spam reviews, and monitors IP addresses email accounts to ensure the authenticity of the review.

  • Facebook Reviews - Any business in 2019 should have a Facebook business page, and therefore should have reviews/recommendations from past customers talking about heir experience.

  • Insurance - Ask the company for Certificates Of Insurance for General Liability, Workmens Comp, and Commercial Auto. If a company has all three of these, its a good indicator that they are abiding by laws and doing things the correct way.

Hopefully going into 2020 you will feel more confident in hiring service professionals to care for your home. Whether its a repair for your washer machine, lawn care, or an in-ground pool install, past customers have documented their experiences on Google or Facebook for you to see.
